Hi, I’m Jessica, I am from San Jose, California, I was living in Austin last year and I’m a professional freelancer Social Media Person and a Blogger now.
So, I was travelling in Thailand for a couple of months, and I met up with some friends and we were going to Bali, we were in Ubud for a little while. But actually, I just wanted to be super close to the beach. So someone told me that Canggu was like Austin or like Brooklyn and expect for like right by the ocean was hugely attractive to me, because I’m from the Bay area.
So, I took a taxi right over and came over to Dojo because I knew I wanted to be developing my website I knew I wanted to learn some skills. And I knew I would need a community around that.
So that’s how I ended up here, but really I wanted to be close to the ocean, we are only a 100m away, so close to the ocean!
What I was expecting was, based of the picture, a cool room with cool people, working online. Which is true – it’s all of these things.
And there are, the people here are just incredible. It’s out of control. The people here that come to Bali and work online are some of the most interesting and incredible tpeople that you will ever meet, a lot of brave people, that are entrepreneuers, doing what they really want to do in their life.
If you are in a room with people like that, you become that. I have learned a ton of stuff just from being here, I have been taken workshops on Photoshop, which I didn’t’t expect to do, I have learned so much about marketing, I have learned a ton that has helped me in my freelancing career, in addition to building my website – which has been incredible.
When I got here, I didn’t have a website and now I have one – and it’s been less than a month. How fast it happened is unreal. So that’s what’s here.
Relationships in Dojo: So I’m travel blogging and a lot of people ask me how do you make friends when you are travelling? It’s not about how you make friends, but it’s also about how you even say goodbye to the people you have met who are incredible important to your life. So just from working here, I’ve made friends – absolutely! You also make business partnerships, you also find people to have beers with, there are people that help you learn how to surf or people that are sitting right next to you when you are trying to learn how to do this thing on your website and just can’t figure it out, and then the person right next to you totally knows how to do it and can help you. Every type of person can benefit from you while you solo-traveling, or trying to build any sort of business, they are all in one room!
The very best thing about Dojo Bali is that you can come here in the morning and can get a cup of coffee and a smoothie bowl and you can work as long or as not long as you feel like it. And then you can literally walk to the beach and go surfing and drinking beers. And then you can walk back and take a shower and put your stuff away and then you are building your website if you want. And there are people all around you the entire time that come with you or not – you are so covered!
You should totally come. I’m so happy being here, I ride around on a bicycle and I’m learning a ton and making a ton of friends. Even though I’m literally on the other side of the world as my family I feel so taken care of here. Bali is so much fun, Canggu specifically is so much fun! So if you are working on anything, if you want to be working on something, if you have a kind of an idea and just needs to be developed, just come over. It’ll be fun!
I’m going home for Christmas, but I’m already excited to about coming back. I know I will come back, I’m super stoked!
