A milestone month for Cogiving! It was incredible to see the community get together on a major project that could make a significant impact to the local community. For everything else that has happened in Cogiving in March and what is coming up this month, here is a breakdown:
Visit to Green School
Some of us went to explore the wall-less bamboo classrooms of Green School this month and learn about its story of revolutionizing the concept of education for the entire world. We were picked up at Dojo with their very own BioBus which fully runs on used cooking oil that is collected from restaurants and cafes around Bali. As we arrived at Green School, we were greeted by our guide who would give us a tour of the entire school complex. Throughout the tour, we were mesmerized by the beautiful bamboo architecture and wide green area of the school that seems to integrate with its natural surroundings. Our guide explained to us that the school was built on a vision to create a new paradigm for learning; educating for sustainability through community-integrated, entrepreneurial learning. As Simone, one of the participant of the visit, wrote in her article: “I hope they are building schools like this all over the world. And I wish I could be 10 again”. I certainly wish so too! If you missed this event, look out for more monthly Cogiving trips like this one in the future.
Merah Putih Hijau (MPH)
I think most of you have heard of the Dojo Impactathon that took place the weekend of 24 & 25 March. It was a great effort by the team of designers, developers and strategists from the Dojo Community to develop an app to be used as the main operations tool at their waste management facility in Pererenan. This just shows the power coworking spaces have to impact the wider community… and change the world! What is best about this app is that it is open sourced, so anyone can contribute and suggest an update on the app. If you are a developer and would like to help in completing the app, join the Dojo Developer’s Group and ask for the project’s Github site and Slack channel.
Stella’s Child have a number of volunteering opportunities for those who are interested and have the time to commit in mentoring students at their Youth Development Centre in Babakan (5 minutes from Canggu). If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please sign this application form and I will get back to you with more details.
