Cogiving Update – April 2018

It is the beginning of the month and it’s time for a Cogiving Update! We had a new event and several new opportunities this month in Cogiving, here is a break-down of what has been happening:

Cogiving Meetup

The Cogiving Meetup was held for the first time ever this month. This meetup will be held every month from now on and it will feature one of Dojo Cogiving’s social partners each time. If you are a member who is interested in giving back to the Balinese community but don’t yet know how, then this meetup is for you. Learn what Cogiving is all about and how you can get involved.

For this month’s meetup, we were joined by Tim, the founder and director of Stella’s Child. He shared with us the story of Stella’s Child and the current mentoring vacancies. There are 7 Dojo members who are currently already giving their time and effort to mentor the youth of Stella’s Child. There are still several mentoring opportunities available if you are interested to get involved.

Merah Putih Hijau

Coming soon! Impactathon: The Movie. A team-up by the Dojo Community, Pererenan Village Co-operative and Merah Putih Hijauto create a tool that could pave the way for community-based waste management in Bali. See the trailer here!

An update on the MPH app: the next update of the app is in progress and we are getting closer to the app being fully functional for use at the facility. However, we are still looking for a project manager for the project and also need help from developers with Javascript skills.

Stella’s Child

Apart from the mentoring opportunities, there is also an opportunity to donate cash donations to Stella’s Child through their crowdfunding pageto raise funds for laptops, which they require in their FirstEmploy program, which aims to bring life-changing employment opportunities to disadvantaged youths in Bali. This program is designed to ensure that the full potential of these children is reached and that they are equipped with the skills and confidence they need, to break the cycle of poverty their families have endured for decades. With your valuable donation, they will be able to expand this program’s computer literacy components and expose the youth to online learning. Funding from this campaign will allow them to purchase the following urgently needed equipment for the program 9 Units of the HP All-In-One Desktop 20-C315B and 1 HP Laserjet M102 A Printer.

Five Pillar Foundation

This month we will head off again on a West Bali Adventurewith Five Pillar Foundationon the weekend of 12th– 13thof May. We will be hosted by the local youth from Five Pillar Foundation and they will be guiding us through the less beaten paths of Bali to stunning rice terraces, lush jungle, local farms, and soothing streams. All profit from this event will go towards Five Pillar Foundation’s youth development programs. This event is limited to 20 places so please register fast at the Dojo frontdesk!

Green-books

Green-books are now not only distributing books to villages all over Indonesia, but also water filters in partnership with Social ImpaKt. Copywriting work for their website content is still in progress and they are planning to get it completed by next month.

Bye Bye Plastic Bags

An opportunity is available to volunteer with Bye Bye Plastic Bagsas an illustrator for a 50-page educational booklet they will be publishing very soon. The booklet is in Bahasa Indonesia and its content is all about organization, ocean & earth, waste management and youth empowerment! Thousands of these educational booklets will be distributed to schools around Indonesia and reach school children at every corner of the archipelago. This booklet is created by youth and for youth, and it aims to raise awareness of school children about the environment and the waste issue. Members required for this Cogiving project would need to have a background in artwork illustration or graphic design.

That’s it for the Cogiving Update for April 2018. Thank you to the members who are already giving their valuable time and skills to these great causes. As always, if you are interested any of these volunteering opportunities, come get involved with Cogiving by filling in the Volunteer Application Form.
